Walk It Out

“No, O people, the Lord has told you what is good, and this is what he requires of you: to do what is right, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God.” Micah 6:8

Sometimes we like to make things more complicated than they need to be. The nation of Israel seemed to be in constant rebellion against the Lord. But when God calls them down on it, they take matters into their own hands. When God says “Oh my people what have I done to you? What have I done to make you tired of me? Answer me.” They respond with a long laundry list of things they think they can do to make it right.

“Maybe we should offer thousands of rams, ten thousand rivers of olive oil, or, I know, we can sacrifice our firstborn children to pay for our sins. “And God says, “You don’t get it, do you?” If you want to do some thing, here’s what I want you to do: Just do what is right. Love mercy. And walk humbly with me.

How many times have we gone astray and said to God, “What can I do to make it right? Maybe I should go to Africa and be a missionary. Maybe I should put more money in the offering. Maybe I need to volunteer in the nursery for a month.” If God is calling you to do those things, then by all means do them. But we cannot do enough to pay for the sins that we have committed against him. If we could make our own sins right, there would be no need for a Savior. God wants us to repent and turn to him and he will abundantly pardon. In turn, he says “Just walk it out. Do what is right. Love mercy. And walk humbly with me.” This is what the Lord requires of you.
