Just Ask
“If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and he will give it to you. He will not rebuke you for asking.” James 1:5
When King Solomon inherited the throne of Israel from his father David, he felt quite inadequate for the job. Solomon confessed, “I am like a little child who doesn’t know his way around.” Israel had become a nation so great and numerous they could not be counted. The Lord appeared to Solomon in a dream, and asked him, “What do you want? Ask, and I will give it to you!”
God was giving Solomon a blank check. What do you want, Solomon? Anything. The sky’s the limit. Solomon could have asked for wealth, fame, health, influence, or material things, but what he asked for was wisdom, an understanding heart to rule his people. The Lord was so pleased that Solomon had asked for wisdom that He not only gave him the wisdom he desired, but gave him riches and honor as well.
James says, “If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and he will give it to you.” It pleases God when we ask for wisdom. Wisdom puts God’s priorities above our own.
