Choices
“But if you refuse to serve the Lord, then choose today whom you will serve. Would you prefer the gods your ancestors served beyond the Euphrates? Or will it be the gods of the Amorites in whose land you now live? But as for me and my family, we will serve the Lord.” Joshua 24:15
Every day of our lives are filled with choices. We start the day by choosing to get out of bed. All day long we make choices. We choose what to wear, what to eat, where we will go and what we will do. In the twilight of Joshua’s life, as he was preparing for his departure from this world, he stood before the people of Israel and asked them to make a serious choice: “Choose today whom you will serve.”
The children of Israel were God’s people. He had chosen them. Now He was asking them to choose Him. Choosing is always intentional. But not choosing can still be a choice. Jesus said, “He who is not with me is against me” (Mt. 12:30). My prayer is that you will choose Christ and proclaim as Joshua did, “As for me and my family, we will serve the Lord.”
