Ambassadors

“For God was in Christ, reconciling the world to himself, no longer counting people’s sins against them. And he gave us this wonderful message of reconciliation. So we are Christ’s ambassadors; God is making his appeal through us. We speak for Christ when we plead, ‘Come back to God!’ 2 Corinthians 5:19-20

If you look up the word ambassador in the dictionary, you find it means “one who is sent as an official representative.” That means that when you enter a foreign country as an official representative of your homeland, all eyes are on you. You are bringing with you your culture, your government, and the attitude and actions of the ones you represent. You might say you are a “sample” of the kingdom you are representing.

Corinthians says we are Christ’s ambassadors. I wonder how well are we representing Him? When people look at us do they see Christ’s culture? His government? His attitude? And His actions? Are we a good sampling of Christ’s kingdom?

God doesn’t need you and I in order to advance His kingdom. But as odd as it may seem, His perfect gospel is spread through imperfect human beings. God has chosen us to represent Him to those He loves. He is making His appeal through us. Let’s make sure we are representing Him well.
