A Godly Perspective

“Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.” Romans 12:2

Our minds are an amazing creation. The human mind is the most powerful supercomputer in the universe. There are 2,500,000 gigabytes of storage space in your brain (compared to the technologically advanced iPhone 7 which has 256 gigabytes). Every one of us thinks approximately fifty to seventy thousand thoughts per day.

Those thoughts are important. What we think determines what or who we are. If we are serious about changing something in our lives we have to change the way we think about it. Paul encourages us not to copy the behavior and customs of this world, but to let God transform us into a new person by changing the way we think. To change the way we think, we have to change our perspective. Changing our thinking won’t change our circumstances, but the way we view those circumstances can have a profound impact on how we navigate them and how we move forward.

Consider Joseph. Joseph’s brothers threw him into a pit and sold him into slavery where he was falsely accused and ended up in prison for a crime he never committed. Jospeh’s circumstances were unthinkable, but God used his circumstances to elevate Joseph to the second most powerful person in Egypt. Many people were saved from starvation because of Joseph’s circumstances. Joseph’s perspective was that the thing his brothers meant for evil against him, God meant for good.

I wonder how many of us would have seen things the way Joseph did. Joseph didn’t copy the behavior and customs of this world. He chose the transforming power of God by choosing a godly perspective. When you see things from God’s perspective you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.
