A Warning

“..We tell others about Christ, warning everyone and teaching everyone with all the wisdom God has given us. We want to present them to God, perfect in their relationship to Christ.” Colossians 1:28

Many products come with a warning on the label. These were some examples I took from a list called “Stunningly Dumb Warning Labels”:

Label: “May cause drowsiness.” Product: Sleeping pills.

Label: “Do not use while sleeping.” Product: Hair dryer.

Label: “This product may contain eggs.” Product: Eggs.

In his letter to the Colossians, Paul writes that God wanted them to know that the riches and glory of Christ are for all people. He says, “We tell others about Christ, warning everyone and teaching everyone.” Paul proclaims Jesus boldly, but that proclamation comes with a warning. Not a stunningly dumb warning as in the examples above, but a sober warning regarding the truth of who Jesus is.

Most people are not too uncomfortable when you talk about God, but when you talk about Jesus, many people become offended. Perhaps that is because Jesus made some bold proclamations about Himself. Jesus claimed to be the Son of God. He healed people, raised them from the dead, and delivered them from demons. The religious people were most offended when he claimed he had the power to forgive sins. Any good religious person knows that only God can forgive sins. Jesus made himself equal with God. So either Jesus was a madman, a liar, or he was who said he was.

Paul speaks unapologetically about Jesus and we should do no less. Jesus is the Son of God. He is the Almighty. Fully God. Equal with God. Creator of all things. Lover of mankind. Forgiver of Sins. It is to Him that every knee must bow. Those who don’t will be stuck in their sins and separated from God.
