Behind the Scenes

“For God is not unjust. He will not forget how hard you have worked for him and how you have shown your love to him by caring for other believers, as you still do.” Hebrews 6:10

I have always loved the theater. My first role was in the Wizard of Oz in elementary school. From that moment I was hooked. I practically grew up on stage. I held the lead role in all of my high school plays (although sometimes I think it was because no one else wanted the part.) As an adult, I was involved in drama ministry for several years.

While there wouldn’t be much of a show without hams like me who like to be center stage, the real heroes are the crew members the audience never sees. A good production takes a team of people working behind the scenes building sets, making costumes, placing props, directing the cast and doing things like makeup, sound checks, and lighting. They work tirelessly behind the scenes because they love serving, even though their service often goes unnoticed.

Many of you are like the incredible backstage crew serving God tirelessly and caring for others. The writer of Hebrews reminds us that God will not forget how hard you have worked for Him and how you have shown your love to Him as you care for others. Although your work is behind the scenes, at the final curtain call Jesus himself will bring you center stage to show that He has not forgotten. He will say to you before all of heaven two simple words: “Well done.”
