Every Single Tear
“He will swallow up death forever! The Sovereign Lord will wipe away all tears. He will remove forever all insults and mockery against his land and people. The Lord has spoken!” Isaiah 25:8
Some think of heaven as just another utopia - an imagined place or state of things in which everything is perfect. Although the Bible describes heaven as a place in which everything is perfect, it is by no means imagined.
Heaven is a perfect place because it is the dwelling place of a perfect God who came to earth in the form of a man and paid the price for the corruption and chaos which was manifest when sin became part of our existence. Pain, suffering, and sorrow entered the human race through one man’s sin and was dealt with on a Roman cross through one Man’s sacrifice. The Lord Jesus Christ made a way back to God when He gave His life for us. But the effects of a fallen world will remain in place until the end of all things when God Himself will swallow up death forever.
The word for “sallow up” means to obliterate, to make something disappear entirely. Our Sovereign God will remove the insults and mockery that accompany sin. No longer will anyone point an accusing finger or hurl allegations against those who are in Christ.
The good news is that the sin-issue has already been dealt with on the cross. Those who belong to Christ need not fear the final enemy of death. Jesus taught his disciples to proclaim that the Kingdom of heaven is at hand (Mt. 10:7). It’s here. It’s available now. Through Christ’s death and resurrection, death has been swallowed up in victory and one day will be swallowed up entirely. And for those who are found in Christ, the Sovereign Lord will wipe away every single tear.
