Faithful

“But the Lord is faithful; he will strengthen you and guard you from the evil one.” 2 Thessalonians 3:3

When my daughters were teenagers, I often went on youth trips as a chaperone. One summer, we were in Colorado Springs for a youth conference. On one of our outings, we visited Royal Gorge Park.

Royal Gorge Park is the home of America’s highest suspension bridge. The Bridge is suspended nearly 1,000 feet above the Arkansas River. Let’s just say that I am not particularly fond of heights, so the thought of crossing a bridge suspended across a gorge was less than appealing to me. However, I am not one to let fear have its way, so I mustered up every ounce of courage I could gather and made my way across the bridge, although I was not sure it would carry me safely to the other side.

Crossing that bridge reminded me of the times in my life when I felt as if the ground would give way from underneath me. Sometimes we find ourselves suspended by fear, anxiety, worry, or doubt. We feel as if we are all alone on a bridge that we are not sure will carry us, but the Lord is faithful. He promises to be true. “For the mountains may move and the hills disappear, but even then my faithful love for you will remain. My covenant of blessing will never be broken,” says the Lord, who has mercy on you. (Isaiah 54:10)

God’s faithfulness is more sure than the ground you walk upon. He will strengthen you. He will guard you from the evil one. You can count on His faithfulness when all others have forsaken you when life’s burdens are too great to bear. His faithfulness is the bridge that will carry you safely to the other side.
