“No one can know a person’s thoughts except that person’s own spirit, and no one can know God’s thoughts except God’s own Spirit.” 1 Corinthians 2:11

Who can know the thoughts of someone except the spirit of that person? Likewise, who can know the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God? If we want to know God, we have to know Him through the Holy Spirit. It’s possible to attend church, read the Bible, pray, and still have no knowledge of God whatsoever. I know, because this was my experience before I came to know God through His Holy Spirit.

I was a morally upright, church-going, Christian-wanna-be. Then one Sunday morning the Spirit of God revealed to me that I was desperately lost and without hope. Jesus said, “No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws them to me” (John 6:44). Try as I might to find God in my own strength, I was not able to truly know Him until I got still long enough to hear the Father drawing me through the Holy Spirit. The Spirit of God was revealing to me the heart of the Father, the thoughts of God concerning me. My world was forever changed that day.

I’ve heard many people use the phrase, “I found God,” but I always say, “I didn’t find God. God found me.” After all, I was the one who was lost.

God is inviting each of us into a deeper walk with Him. We just have to get still long enough to hear Him drawing us through His own Spirit.
