He Rescues Us from Our Enemies

“The Lord is a friend to those who fear him. He teaches them his covenant. My eyes are always on the Lord, for he rescues me from the traps of my enemies.” Psalm 25:14-15

Jehoshaphat, king of God’s people in Judah, was terrified when his messengers approached him with the news that a vast army was marching against him from beyond the Dead Sea. The vast army was actually a combination of three different armies who had declared war on Jehoshaphat. After calling them to a fast, Jehoshaphat gathered the people of Judah together to pray. Jehoshaphat prayed a powerful prayer that is recorded in 2 Chronicles 20. He cried out to the Lord, ending his prayer with these words: “We do not know what to do, but we are looking to you for help.” In other words, “God, our eyes are on you.”

The Psalmist says, “My eyes are always on the Lord.” Jehoshaphat was able to defeat an enemy that outnumbered him because his eyes were on the Lord. God gave him specific instructions on what to do and the Lord rescued him from his enemies.

Whatever you may be facing, even if you feel that are vastly outnumbered, keep your eyes on the Lord. He is a friend to those who fear him. He teaches us his covenant and he rescues us from our enemies.
