Humble Yourselves
“So humble yourselves before God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.” James 4:7
Sometimes the problem is that we don’t realize that we are the problem. We want everyone else to straighten up and fly right, but maybe the problem is not external, but internal. James writes, “humble yourselves before God.” These words are not written to those outside the faith, but to the church.
Perhaps the only thing standing between you and God is you. Humble yourself. Choose a lower posture. The things you want God to do in those around you, ask God to do in you first. Ask God to reveal those things in you that hinder the advancement of the kingdom through you. God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble (James 4:6). Draw near to God and he will draw near to you (James 4:8). Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up in honor (James 4:10).
The enemy doesn’t stand a chance against a heart fully submitted to God.
