Irrational Peace
"Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:7
With all the chaos in our lives sometimes peace can be quite illusive. There is so much external conflict that we find it hard to imagine a peace which exceeds anything we can understand. But Jesus said (in John 14:27), “My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.”
Peace is not the absence of external conflict, it’s the presence of a heart that is not troubled or afraid in the midst of external conflict. This kind of peace may seem irrational. How do you have peace when so many things are falling apart? But this is exactly the kind of peace that Jesus gives. This so-called “irrational peace” will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ. Chaos will still find its way in, but your hope in Christ and the peace that he gives will cause you to rise above the chaos and your heart will not be trouble or afraid even in the midst of it.
