Make Room

“Always be humble and gentle. Be patient with each other, making allowance for each other’s faults because of your love.” Ephesians 4:2

God is perfect, and we’re not. I know that is an obvious statement, but I think it needs to be brought to the light now and then. Unless you live in a vacuum somewhere, you are going to encounter people: faulty, imperfect, often well-meaning people who are just like you. How do we deal with these people? The same way Jesus deals with us, with humility, gentleness, and patience.

You were made by God, redeemed by the blood of Christ, and destined to be conformed to His image. Considering we are all imperfect, we must make room for each other’s faults, be willing to overlook imperfections, and always be ready to forgive. You are never more like God than when you forgive.

If you are looking for the perfect friend, the perfect business partner, or the perfect mate, you will never find what you are looking for. But in some ways, that’s a good thing. Living amongst imperfect people allows us to put into practice what it means to be like Christ. He laid aside the worship of angels to be born into a world filled with imperfections. From his example, we can learn how to love the unlovely, how to forgive the unthinkable, and how to share God’s incredible love with a world that desperately needs to know love. We can make room for each other’s faults because we know he has paid the price for ours.
