Masterpiece

“For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.” Ephesians 2:10

It took Michelangelo four years to paint the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel, one of the most famous works of art from the Renaissance period. Twenty years later Michelangelo created a second masterpiece in the Sistine Chapel, which took him seven more years to complete.

Ephesians says that we are God’s masterpiece. We are his crowning glory, created anew in Christ Jesus. But we are not merely a work of art, a display of craftsmanship to be admired like Michelangelo’s work in the Sistine Chapel. We were made for a purpose—to do the good things he planned for us long ago.

God didn’t make us just for show, He invited us to take part in his plan for humanity. In 1 Corinthians, Paul describes God’s people as “one body with many parts” (1 Cor. 12). Some parts may be more visible than others, but those parts of the body that seem weakest and least important are actually the most necessary.

You are not an afterthought. You are a carefully crafted masterpiece. Step into the purpose for which you were created. You are an important and necessary part of God’s plan for humanity.
