My Safe Place
“I love you, Lord; you are my strength. The Lord is my rock, my fortress, and my savior; my God is my rock, in whom I find protection. He is my shield, the power that saves me, and my place of safety.” Psalm 18:1-2
This Psalm is very personal. I almost feel like I am eves dropping on a private moment David is having with the Lord as he sings these words. This is not a sermon. It’s a sacred exchange between a shepherd-boy-turned-king and the Creator of all things. David sang this song to the Lord on the day the Lord rescued him from all his enemies and from Saul. David was not celebrating his personal victory, he was giving credit to the One who provided that victory for him. David, of all people, understood that apart from God he was weak and needy.
I too am weak and needy. But God strengthens those who are weak and in need. There are times when I feel utterly helpless against the things that life throws at me. There are times when I don’t know what to do, what to say, or even what to pray, but I know that I have a personal Savior to whom I can cry out in my time of need.\
God is not just a rock, He is my rock. He’s not just a fortress. He is my fortress. He’s not just a Savior. He is my Savior. He’s my strength, my shield, the One in whom I find protection. He is the safe place I run to when life is unraveling. He is the power that saves me. There is no safer place to be than in Him.
