My Shelter

“Those who live in the shelter of the Most High will find rest in the shadow of the Almighty.” Psalm 91:1

Raise your hand if you like feeling like you are not in control.

I’m not the most graceful human being on the planet. A couple of times I have tripped over my own feet and taken a good tumble to the floor. One time, it felt like I was falling in slow motion. I knew the floor was rising to meet me and there was absolutely nothing I could do to prevent it.

Nobody likes to feel like they are out of control. Yet, the reality is, there are so many things in life that we have no control over. Jesus may have spoken to the wind and the waves and I know that with Him all things are possible, but if the tornado sirens are going off in my neighborhood, let’s just say I’m going to gather my family and pets and move to my safe place—my shelter from the storm.

Psalm 91 says that God, the Most High, is our safe place amid life’s storms. When life’s sirens are blaring, you and I can move to our safe place—our shelter from the storm. We may not have control over the circumstances around us, but we can live in the shelter of the Most High. We can find rest in the shadow of the Almighty.

I may not be in control, but I know that God is. I will rest in His shadow. I will live in the shelter of the Most High. I may not be able to avoid life’s storms, but I will weather them because of His presence.
