No Excuse

“For ever since the world was created, people have seen the earth and sky. Through everything God made, they can clearly see his invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature. So they have no excuse for not knowing God.” Romans 1:20

Not too long ago, my husband and I were having a conversation about medicine. My husband has a PhD in health science. I pretty much faint at the sight of blood, but I was curious why people need so many different doctors and specialists to keep them healthy. It seems like there is a specialist for every ailment. I did some research and found out that there are actually several hundred medical specialties and subspecialties. Seems a bit overkill to me, but my highly educated (and extremely patient) medical husband began to explain to me how intricate the human body is and how much there is yet to be understood about all of its functions.

And then I began to think about God. How can someone look at something as complicated and orderly as a human cell and still deny the existence of God? If you look at a diagram of a single cell, it contains at least nine different parts. There are roughly trillions of cells in the human body. They all play an important role in various bodily functions, such as taking in and transporting nutrients from foods, converting nutrients to energy, and carrying the genetic materials of the body.

It’s one thing to look at the earth and sky and sense that there is something bigger than us, but when you consider the human body you would be hard-pressed to deny the existence of God. So many complicated things are all working in perfect order to keep us healthy or even alive for that matter.

We can see God’s eternal power and divine nature through everything He made. All of creation reveals these invisible qualities. When you consider the earth, the sky, or even the human body, we surely have no excuse for not knowing God.
