No Other

But you are my witnesses, O Israel!” says the Lord. “You are my servant. You have been chosen to know me, believe in me, and understand that I alone am God. There is no other God—there never has been, and there never will be. I, yes I, am the Lord, and there is no other Savior. First I predicted your rescue, then I saved you and proclaimed it to the world. No foreign god has ever done this. You are witnesses that I am the only God,” says the Lord.” Isaiah 43:10-12

A cursory search for the number of religions shows there are an estimated 10,000 distinct religions worldwide. Those 10,000 religions are populated by more than 85% of people on earth. This staggering statistic means there is potentially a different religion for every 8 people in the city where I currently live. It also proves that mankind is searching for meaning and significance outside of themselves. We are all searching for truth.

Yet there can only be one truth. There are not multiple versions of the truth. There is no “my” truth or “your” truth. There is only “the” truth. My dad used to say, “What’s good for the goose is good for the gander.”

There are not many gods or many ways to God. Ephesians 4:5-6 says, “There is one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of all, who is over all, in all, and living through all.” Period. God says in Isaiah 43, “There is no other God—there never has been, and there never will be. I, yes I, am the Lord, and there is no other Savior.”

The God of the Bible is uniquely God. He is not one of many. He is the One and Only. He alone is worthy of our devotion. Just as the nation of Israel were witnesses to this truth in their generation, we are witnesses to the same truth in our generation. In a world that is becoming more and more confused about significance, meaning, purpose, and identity, it is more important now than ever that we are witnesses to the truth of the One True God. The world is falling apart. It needs a Savior. That Savior is the God of the Bible. There is no other.
