Not Like Us
“My thoughts are nothing like your thoughts,” says the Lord. “And my ways are far beyond anything you could imagine. For just as the heavens are higher than the earth, so my ways are higher than your ways and my thoughts higher than your thoughts.” Isaiah 55:8-9
Think you know what God is thinking? Think again. But just because God’s thoughts and ways are beyond anything we can imagine doesn’t mean God is far removed from us. After all, he watched you as you were being formed in utter seclusion, as you were woven together in the dark of the womb (Ps. 139:15). He knows your name; he knows how many hairs are on your head; he knows what you need before you even ask.
Still, God’s way of thinking is superior to ours. You want to think more like him? Start by blessing those who curse you. Lend to those who have no means to repay you. Pray for those who hurt you. Love your enemies. Jesus said, “Students are not greater than their teacher. But the student who is fully trained will become like the teacher.” (Luke 6:40)
God’s ways are higher than ours because they are better than ours. His ways produce peace, prosperity, hope and unity. If your desire is to walk in greater peace, prosperity, hope and unity, study his ways. Become the student who is fully trained and you will become more like the teacher.
