How To Be Satisfied

“Don’t love money; be satisfied with what you have. For God has said, ‘I will never fail you. I will never abandon you.’” Hebrews 13:5

Let’s face it, adulting can be challenging especially when there is too much month at the end of the money. Statistically, more than 35% of marriages in America end in divorce due to financial difficulties. Not being able to make ends meet is incredibly stressful. The writer of Hebrews reminds us that God has said, “I will never fail you. I will never abandon you.” It’s interesting that He is referencing Deuteronomy when talking about money.

In Deuteronomy 31, we read that the children of Israel were about to cross over into the land God had provided for them. There were obstacles in that land — specifically kingdoms that they would have to overcome, but Joshua told the people, “Do not be afraid or discouraged, for the Lord will personally go ahead of you. He will be with you; he will neither fail you nor abandon you.”

God wanted the nation of Israel to know that even though there would be hard times, He was their Provider. They didn’t have to trust in their own ability. They merely had to trust in Him. I love that Joshua says, “The Lord will personally go ahead of you. And that “He will be with you.” God doesn’t send a representative, He goes Himself. He personally goes ahead of us and makes a way. Then He accompanies us through all the hardships and challenges of life.

We can trust God to provide for all of our needs: spiritual, emotional and even financial. We can be satisfied because we know that He will never fail us and He will never abandon us.
