Representatives

“And whatever you do or say, do it as a representative of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks through him to God the Father.” Colossians 3:17

I have a confession to make. When I was in middle school and all my nerdy friends were going to the library to check out books to read, I would check out books so I could draw the pictures. I have always loved to draw and create things with my hands. When I was in my early 20s, I began taking art classes. After finishing an oil painting in one class, I remember the art instructor saying, “Don’t forget to sign your name.”

A work of art that bears your name is representative of who you are. It represents your creativity, skill, and workmanship. We are representatives of the Lord Jesus Christ. We bear His name. Followers of Christ first became known as Christians in Antioch because the people there recognized that they were representative of Christ, following his behavior and practices.

We are to be like Christ in all we do. We represent Him in the workplace, at the gym, in the grocery store, at home, or at school. We are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus (Eph. 2:10). We represent His creativity, skill, and workmanship. The world is looking at God’s people to see a glimpse of what God looks like. Let’s represent Him well - in everything we say or do, giving thanks through Christ to God the Father.
