They Are Mine

“All who are victorious will be clothed in white. I will never erase their names from the Book of Life, but I will announce before my Father and his angels that they are mine.” Revelation 3:5

In my study of the churches in Revelation. What I find particularly intriguing are these statements Jesus makes about those who are victorious. I’m not sure how much of Revelation should be taken literally, but we can certainly learn some interesting things about Jesus and how He views those who belong to HIm.

First of all, here in chapter three, He says, “All who are victorious will be clothed in white.”* White is often used in scripture to represent purity or forgiveness from sin. The Lord says in Isaiah, “Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow.” I am not sure we will literally be clothed in white, but I do know that the blood of Jesus will permanently cleanse us from the penalty of sin.

The second thing Jesus says is, “I will never erase their names from the Book of Life.” The Book of Life is mentioned even in the Old Testament book of Psalms when David seeks vindication and asks God to blot the names of his enemies out of the Book of Life. Jesus says the victorious one will never have their name erased from the Book of Life. What a glorious thought!

Finally, Jesus says (and this is my favorite part), “I will announce before my Father and His angels that they are mine.” Again, I’m not sure if this will be a literal announcement. But I am overwhelmed at the possibility of the moment I arrive in heaven and stand before the Creator of All Things and all the angels of heaven, to have Jesus look over at me, then back to the Father as He says, “This is Wendy, and she is mine.”
