Unfailing Love and Faithfulness

“I bow before your holy Temple as I worship. I praise your name for your unfailing love and faithfulness; for your promises are backed by all the honor of your name.” Psalm 138:2

A man stakes his reputation on his word. A person who promises one thing and does something else cannot be trusted. But God is a promise keeper. Concerning the land God promised to give the children of Israel, Joshua 21:45 says this:

“Not a single one of all the good promises the Lord had given to the family of Israel was left unfulfilled; everything he had spoken came true.”

God promised 75-year-old Abraham that he would become the father of many nations (which he became at the ripe old age of 100). God promised Joseph that his brothers would one day bow down to him. Maybe it didn’t happen the way Joseph had envisioned it, but God made good on His promise. God promised a virgin named Mary that she would give birth to a Son who would be the Savior of the world.

God not only fulfills his promises, but Psalm 138 tells us His promises are backed by all the honor of his name. God, whose name is above every name, has given us a treasure trove of promises in His Word. There are over 3000 promises in the Bible that are backed up by the integrity of God’s name. No wonder David praised Him for His unfailing love and faithfulness.
