We’ve Already Won
“Then I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, “Now salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of His Christ have come, for the accuser of our brethren, who accused them before our God day and night, has been cast down. And they have defeated him by the blood of the Lamb and by their testimony. And they did not love their lives so much that they were afraid to die.” Revelation 12:10-11
My husband loves to watch college football. Recently, two games that he wanted to watch were on at the same time. He decided to watch one of the games with some friends while he recorded the game of his favorite team. When the game he was watching was finished, he was eager to know whether his team had won, so he flipped the channel and watched the last a few minutes of his favorite team’s game. The game was very close. His team won by a touchdown. Later, he went back and watched the game in its entirety. The two teams took turns scoring touchdowns, which made for a high-scoring and very close game.
When a football game is as close as this game was, my husband often gets very tense. But I noticed that he was quite calm throughout the entire replay of the game. Even though the score went back and forth repeatedly, he was not at all concerned because he already knew the outcome of the game. He already knew that he had won.
I started thinking about our lives as Christians. So many times we battle Satan, our opponent. Sometimes it seems like we are winning the battles and sometimes it seems as if we are not. But we don’t have to be concerned because, like a recorded football game, we already know the outcome.
No matter what life brings, we can remember that salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of his Christ have come. Even though we are at times in an intense battle with the accuser, we can navigate life with certainty and peace, knowing that he has been cast down, and we have overcome him by the blood of the Lamb and the word of our testimony. We don’t even need to fear death because, if you read the back of the book, you’ll know that we have already won.
