He Leads Me Through

“When you go through deep waters, I will be with you. When you go through rivers of difficulty, you will not drown. When you walk through the fire of oppression, you will not be burned up; the flames will not consume you.” Isaiah 43:2

When I was in my early twenties, I sang in a church choir. We had been rehearsing a song, and I kept messing up the lyrics. The song says, “He takes me by the hand, And leads me through that Promised Land..” But every time we would sing it, I would sing, “He… leads me to that Promised Land.” Seeing that I was struggling with “to” and “through,” the choir director gently took me aside and said, “Wendy, God will never lead you “to” somewhere and just drop you off, He will always go with you on the journey. He will always lead you “through.” Not only did his mini-sermon help me remember the correct lyric, it gave me a life lesson that I have never forgotten.

No matter what I am going through, God will always go with me on the journey. When I go through deep waters, he goes with me. When I experience rivers of difficulty, he is right there beside me. When I walk through the fire of oppression, the flames will not consume me. My God will be there beside me in every difficult challenge of life. He doesn’t say that I won’t experience hardship, but he says I won’t go it alone. God will never lead me “to” somewhere and drop me off. He will always go with me on the journey. He always leads me “through.”
