Something to Think About

“When I look at the night sky and see the work of your fingers—the moon and the stars you set in place—what are mere mortals that you should think about them, human beings that you should care for them?” Psalm 8:3-4

I spend a lot of time thinking about God. I think about how incredible God is. I think about how He spoke and everything we can see or will ever discover came into existence. I think about how He holds all things together by His word. I think about how He made a plan for salvation because He knew we would blow it. I think about the intricacies of creation from microscopic organisms to the largest planet in the night sky. I think about how all of creation reflects the magnitude and glory of a Creator. I think about His incredible love, His selfless sacrifice, His infinite wisdom, and His unmistakable power and authority.

I often think about God. But the psalmist says God thinks about me. “What are mere mortals that you should think about them?” I guess I don’t really think about the fact that God thinks about me. What could God possibly find so special about me? When I think about God thinking about me, I have to catch my breath. In the grand scheme of things, I feel so small and insignificant, and I suppose I am. But God doesn’t see me that way. He thinks about me. He chose me. He planned my days. He breathed His life in me. He cares for me. Of all His magnificent creations, Psalm 8 says, you and I are crowned with glory and honor. We are His most precious possession. Now that’s certainly something to think about.
