Be Still and Know
“Be still, and know that I am God! I will be honored by every nation. I will be honored throughout the world. The Lord of Heaven’s Armies is here among us; the God of Israel is our fortress.” Psalm 46:10-11
It seems the entire world is in turmoil these days. We are plagued by sickness, natural disasters, and political unrest. At the time Psalm 46 was written, over 2,700 years ago, the world was in about the same shape. In verse 6, the Psalmist writes, “The nations are in chaos, and their kingdoms crumble!” Psalm 46, like all the psalms, is a song written to be sung, a song that celebrates the presence of God among His people and the protection of God for His people in the midst of a world filled with turmoil.
With the worries and cares of this world spinning out of control, the voice of the Lord is clear, “Be still.”
Stop.
Push the pause button.
Take a step back.
Breathe.
Step away from the chaos.
“Be still and know that I am God.”
Know that He is God. Know that He is your Creator. Know that He is your miracle worker, your way-maker, your Savior, your refuge and strength, always ready to help in times of trouble. Though the trouble of the world may rise up against us, the Lord of Heaven’s Armies is here among us; the God of Israel is our fortress. Take refuge in Him. Be still and know that He is God.
