Don’t Forget

“And do not forget to do good and to share with those in need. These are the sacrifices that please God.” Hebrews 13:16

I don’t know about you, but I need reminders. Sticky notes are a must in my world. “Take out the trash.” “Buy cat food.” “Pick up a birthday present.” Whatever it is, I need to be reminded to do it. I remember the day I discovered the “reminders” app on my phone. I saw the heavens open up and heard the hallelujah chorus! 

Yes, I am forgetful, but I never want to forget what this verse in Hebrews is reminding me. “Do not forget to do good and to share with those in need.” Serving people is how we show the love of God to others. Actions speak louder than words. It’s not merely in our words that God’s love is made known to them but in our actions.

James 2:25 says,

“Suppose you see a brother or sister who has no food or clothing, and you say, ‘Goodbye and have a good day; stay warm and eat well’—but then you don’t give that person any food or clothing. What good does that do?”

Our actions reveal our faith in God. Our faith in God should compel us to love one another with our actions. 

John writes:

“Dear children, let’s not merely say that we love each other; let us show the truth by our actions.” (1 John 3:18)

Jesus didn’t just talk the talk. He walked the walk. He demonstrated his love for us even though it was neither convenient nor comfortable to do so. Jesus loved us to the point of dying a sacrificial death on a cruel Roman cross. And God the Father said, “This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.”

When we think of all Christ did for us, Let us not forget to do good and to share with those in need. These are the sacrifices that please God.
