Instructions

“All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right. God uses it to prepare and equip his people to do every good work.”  2 Timothy 3:16-17

I am an instruction reader. Yes, I’m that nerdy person who pulls all the parts out of the box, sorts them and lays them out (I especially like it when they are numbered or color-coded) and then unfolds the instruction sheet before rolling up my sleeves and getting to work. There’s nothing worse than getting to the end of a project only to discover that you have parts left over. Instructions help us do things right the first time.

When my first daughter was born I remember thinking, “if only babies came with instructions.” Suddenly, I was completely responsible for another human being who could not fend for herself. I had no idea if her cries meant that she was hungry, sleepy, hurting or needed a diaper change and I had no instruction manual. I could only hope that I would do it right the first time.

Unfortunately, babies don’t come with instructions, but God’s Word is an instruction manual of sorts. It is inspired by God Himself. The word inspire comes from a Latin word meaning “to breathe into.” In this manual you will find God-breathed instructions on what is true, how to know what is right and wrong and how to live. If you will take the time to read the Bible’s instructions, it will prepare and equip you for every good work that God has for you to do.
