Investments
“Make the most of every opportunity.” Colossians 4:5
On October 29, 1929, also known as Black Tuesday, the stock market crashed. America and the rest of the industrialized world spiraled downward into the Great Depression, the deepest and longest-lasting economic downturn. Billions of dollars were lost, wiping out thousands of investors.
If we invest our lives in the things of this world, our investments can be wiped out with a single blow. I don’t mean to minimize the value of making investments, but consider this: every morning, twenty-four hours are deposited into your account without charge. What will you do with this priceless treasure? No amount of money can ever purchase a single extra minute and once those minutes are used up, you can never get them back.
Some day, all the treasures of this earth will rust and decay, but there are investments that can last for eternity. How we spend our time can carry eternal weight. What if we invest in praying for our neighbor? Or serving those in need? Jesus said, “When you did it to one of the least of these, my brothers and sisters, you were doing it to me.” (Matthew 25:40)
Every one of us will one day receive a final deposit of time. Invest well, my friends.
