Kind Words

“Kind words are like honey—sweet to the soul and healthy for the body.” Proverbs 16:24

The Bible compares kind words to the sweet nectar of honey. Good honey is not only sweet, it has antibacterial and antiseptic properties. Honey is even used for wound treatment and fighting infections.

Kind words can have a great impact. Research shows kind words can reduce levels of the stress hormone cortisol and boost the bonding hormone oxytocin, lowering blood pressure and improving one’s mood.

A good beekeeper will tell you, “The flavor and intensity of honey depends on what kind of nectar the bees drink.” Smart beekeepers ensure that a beehive is strategically placed near a large patch of clover if they want to produce the sweetest, most delectable honey.

The Bible is like a fine patch of clover. When we drink in its nectar, the flavor and intensity of our words are greatly affected. Time spent in God’s Word will produce the sweetest, most delectable honey - kind words that will encourage and uplift others, words that are sweet to the soul and healthy for the body.
