Our Victory

“O death, where is your victory? O death, where is your sting?” For sin is the sting that results in death, and the law gives sin its power. But thank God! He gives us victory over sin and death through our Lord Jesus Christ.” 1 Corinthians 15:55-57

One of the things people often fear the most is dying. While none of us like to think of our own mortality, for those who are in Christ, the sting is not in death - it’s in the fear of death. However, we need not fear death because the sacrifice that Jesus made has given us victory over both sin and death.

Although the birth of Christ is the most celebrated Christian holiday, without Christ’s death and resurrection, our celebration would fall short. Paul writes, “If Christ has not been raised, then your faith is useless and you are still guilty of your sins.” But Christ has been raised! And thank God! He has taken the sting of death away and given us victory over it.

As children of God, we need not fear death. Death is merely the doorway into eternal life. As Paul writes in 2 Corinthians, “We would rather be away from these earthly bodies, for then we will be at home with the Lord.” O death, where is your victory? The sting of death has been swallowed up in victory. Our victory is in the Lord Jesus Christ.
