No Excuse

“For ever since the world was created, people have seen the earth and sky. Through everything God made, they can clearly see his invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature. So they have no excuse for not knowing God.” Romans 1:20

Creation does not tell us everything about God, but it speaks quite loudly about some things. It tells enough so that we have no excuse for not knowing God. David writes in Psalm 19:1, “The heavens proclaim the glory of God. The skies display his craftsmanship.” No matter where you live on planet earth, you can simply look up and see the glory of God. The clouds and the sun speak of his name. The moon and the stars are shouting his praises. You can see God in a gentle rain or a powerful thunderstorm.

God may be invisible to our eyes, but creation reveals some of God’s invisible qualities. The sheer vast expanse of the universe shows us God’s eternal power. The detailed order of creation reveals God’s divine nature to us - one of perfect order. Even Albert Einstein, who was not a Christian, believed that one could not look at the wonders of nature without concluding that there must be a Creator.

Sadly, some have and will mistake the creation for God himself, but God and creation are not the same. Creation points us to the need for God, but should never be worshipped as God. Looking at God’s glory in the heavens is like looking at an incredible work of art and longing to one day meet the artist.
