The Narrow Road

Heart Check (2).png

“You can enter God’s Kingdom only through the narrow gate. The highway to hell is broad, and its gate is wide for the many who choose that way. But the gateway to life is very narrow and the road is difficult, and only a few ever find it.” Matthew 7:13-14

I have never been to the Grand Canyon. I can only imagine how breathtakingly beautiful it must be to see in person. But to be completely honest, the thought of visiting the Grand Canyon strikes a bit of fear in my heart. Let’s just say I am not fond of heights. The thought of looking over the edge of the canyon makes my palms sweaty just thinking about it. I shudder, watching videos of people riding donkeys single file down into the canyon on a tiny narrow path with towering rocks on one side and sheer cliffs on the other.

This is the picture that comes to mind when I read these words of Jesus, “the gateway to life is very narrow and the road is difficult.” When it comes to the Grand Canyon, you will not find me on the narrow and difficult road, but Jesus said this is the only option when it comes to the Kingdom of God. Most people won’t find it.

It’s not that the way is hard to find. Jesus plainly said, “I am the Way. No one comes to the Father except through me” (John 14:6). And, “I am the door. If anyone enters by Me, he will be saved” (John. 10:9). But many people consider the narrow road narrow-minded. The fact remains that there are not many paths to God. There is one. His name is Jesus. No one comes to the Father except through Him. This is one narrow and difficult road I will gladly travel. I pray the same for you.
