Something to Think About

“My thoughts are nothing like your thoughts,” says the Lord. “And my ways are far beyond anything you could imagine. For just as the heavens are higher than the earth, so my ways are higher than your ways and my thoughts higher than your thoughts. Isaiah 55:8-9

Aren’t you glad God’s thoughts are not like our thoughts? I don’t know about you, but my thoughts can go south on a moment’s notice. God knows our thoughts get messed up. He even gave us a practical list of things to think about. In Philippians 4:8, He tells us, “Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise.” I wonder how many of us fix out thoughts on these things? I know I have room for improvement and if you’re honest, I would imagine you do too.

Not only are God’s thoughts higher than ours, His ways are far beyond anything we could imagine. Think about the time in Bethsaida when they brought a blind man to Jesus. The Bible says He led him out of the town and spit in his eyes. Then He put His hands on his eyes and made him look up and his sight was restored. (Mark 8:22-26) Not the way I would have done it.

Jesus walked on water (Mark 6). He turned water to wine (John 2). He spoke to the wind and the waves and calmed the storm  (Matthew 8). He sent Peter fishing to pay His taxes (Matthew 17). He fed 5000 men plus women and children with a two piece fish dinner (John 6). No wonder Isaiah says that just as the heavens are higher than the earth, so His ways are higher than ours.

The lesson here is that even when your back is against the wall, When the money is gone, when the doctor says there’s nothing else he can do, when the only way to describe your situation is — impossible, remember that God’s thoughts are not like yours and His way are so much higher. The word impossible is not even in His vocabulary. Luke 1:37 reminds us that “With God nothing will be impossible.”
