Strong in the Lord

"A final word: Be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power." Ephesians 6:10

The New Testament book of Ephesians was written by the Apostle Paul while in prison. Chapter after chapter Paul gives the Ephesian church and subsequently the body of Christ encouragement, instructions, and exhortation to walk as fruitful followers of Christ and to serve in unity and love in the midst of persecution.

Paul ends his letter with a final word: Be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Paul is saying, “Listen folks, all these instructions I have given you about living in unity, walking in the light and honoring parents will do you no good if you try to do it in your own strength. Rather, be strong in the Lord.” Following Christ means depending on Christ. Serving in love means understanding the love that causes one to lay down his life for others. Honoring parents means understanding the relationship between God the Father and God the Son.

In our own strength, we are ill-equipped to live the godly lives lined out in scripture, but fortunately we are not dependent upon our own resources. We have access to God’s mighty power through Christ. If we are strong in him, we can do all things.
