The Lord Your Redeemer
“This is what the Lord says—your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel: ‘I am the Lord, your God, who teaches you what is good for you and leads you along the paths you should follow.’” Isaiah 48:17
Who doesn’t like saving money? I wouldn’t really consider myself a coupon clipper, but I do enjoy redeeming coupons. Because of the amount saved, coupons are like getting free money. Redeeming and saving are great when it comes to shopping, but these are much more powerful words when it comes to our relationship with God.
Redemption is so much more than saving a few dollars at the supermarket. The word redeem actually means to buy back, to regain possession of (something) in exchange for payment; to restore the honor or worth of something; to bring back into original existence.
I love the way Isaiah reminds us of who the Lord is — our Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel. God is our Redeemer, the one who buys back. Through the blood of Jesus Christ, He has bought back at a great price what was lost through sin. He has forgiven us and restored our honor and worth. He has brought us back to our original existence — unbroken fellowship with God the Father.
