The Message About Christ

“Let the message about Christ, in all its richness, fill your lives. Teach and counsel each other with all the wisdom he gives. Sing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs to God with thankful hearts.” Colossians 3:16

As Christians, sometimes we fill our lives with so many things other than the message about Christ. Many of us have several Bible translations sitting on our bookshelves and dozens more at our fingertips (thanks to modern technology), yet our lives are often void of the richness of the message about Christ. We’re not living to our full potential. As Christ-followers, our lives should stand out against the stark contrast of the darkness in the world around us.

We should be teaching and counseling each other with all the wisdom found in the Word of God, but to do that we’re going to have to do the work. We’re going to have to dust those Bibles off (or fire up those electronics) and put forth the effort to learn about the wisdom of Christ.

A good place to start would be to read through the gospels and take the time to meditate and reflect on the words and works of Jesus. Allow Jesus to teach you about prayer and how to love God first. Learn how to love your neighbor and wash the feet of those who follow Him. Let Jesus teach you about humility and grace, how to turn the other cheek and give to those in need. Follow Christ as He is betrayed by a friend and crucified for the sins of the world. Learn of His victory over mankind’s final enemy - death itself.

Allow His message, in all its richness, to fill your lives. You might just find yourselves teaching and counseling each other with all the wisdom you have received. Then, from the overflow of the fullness of Christ in you, will come songs and hymns and spiritual songs to God with thankful hearts.
