The Noise
“If I could speak all the languages of earth and of angels, but didn’t love others, I would only be a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal.” 1 Corinthians 13:1
There is so much noise in the world right now, so many things to have an opinion about. But is my opinion really what people want to hear? Will the noise I make make a difference? The last thing I want to do is add to the noise. What if, instead of adding to the noise, we truly begin to love one another?
I’m not talking about loving only those who love us or those who deserve to be loved. What if we just began to love humanity? Jesus hung out with tax collectors and sinners. These were folks that others looked down upon in society. Once a woman, whom the Bible only describes as a sinner, shows up for dinner, washes Jesus’ feet with her tears and dries them with her hair. This woman was considered an outcast in society, but Jesus extended love to her and forgave her of her many sins.
The God-kind of love is not expressed with mere words. It gets its hands dirty. God’s love leaves its place of comfort to sacrifice itself for the sake of others. It looks past our past and sees our future potential. God’s love never adds to the noise. It always rises above the noise as it kneels down to serve others.
