Drawn to the Light
“All nations will come to your light; mighty kings will come to see your radiance.” Isaiah 60:3
I love a full moon, especially when it’s peeking in and out of clouds in the night sky. It fascinates me to think that we can see the craters on the surface of the moon from over two-hundred-fifty-thousand miles away. But none of this would be possible without the sun. The moon itself, the brightest object in the night sky, has no source of light. Its light is a reflection of the sun.
Isaiah is speaking of God’s people when he says, “All nations will come to your light.” Yet even God’s people have no light in themselves. We are but a reflection of His light. The Bible says that God is light and that in Him is no darkness at all (1 John 1:5). He is the source of light. In John 8:12, Jesus said, “I am the light of the world.” He also says in the sermon on the mount (Mt. 5:13), “You are the light of the world.”
Like the moon, God’s people reflect the source of light, which is Jesus. You and I have no light of our own. But when you live your life in such a way that others can see Jesus in the way you respond to life’s trials and triumphs, they will be drawn to your radiance. They will come to your light because your light is a reflection of His.
