Working Out His Plans

“The Lord will work out his plans for my life—for your faithful love, O Lord, endures forever. Don’t abandon me, for you made me.” Psalm 138:8

Unique. Different. Special. Distinctive. Not like the others. A one-off. These are words that describe you. You were created with purpose, on purpose, for a purpose. There will never be another you. God planned it that way. Of the almost 8 billion people on planet Earth, there is not another single soul with the same life plan as yours.

My mother was told she could not have any more children before she gave birth to my brother, who is a year older than me. But there is no such thing as an unplanned pregnancy. The Lord planned my life and yours and He will work out his plans because His faithful love for you endures forever. You were created with purpose because there was a you-sized void in God’s plan for humanity that no one else could fill. Ephesians 2:10 says,

“We are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.”

Your life is a masterpiece, a work of art created by God that will never be replicated. God has good things planned for you to do. That kind word you spoke to the waitress who seemed to be having a bad day? That was part of God’s plan. That time you changed a tire or helped your friend move? God’s plan was being executed. All those times you held your children when they were hurt or sad? That was God’s plan.

Many of us feel as if we are not carrying out God’s plan unless we sell all our earthly possessions and move across the globe to become missionaries, but missionaries come in many shapes and sizes. Some of you will be called to go, others will be called to stay, but if you are a part of God’s family, you are on mission. God has good things for you to do. Yes, you. Perhaps you are already doing them and don’t even know it.
